Mental Health Support

For many Cystic Fibrosis patients, depression is a side effect of having to fight against this terminal chronic illness. It, along with anxiety, and PTSD are a few of the many mental health challenges that we have to go through.

Often there either isn’t enough coverage on our health insurance to cover the cost of treating such complex mental health issues. Or if we do have insurance, we don’t have enough to cover the co-payments.

Then there is also the issue of we’re in this fight from birth, admitting to ourselves that we need help is far harder than anyone might think. We almost have to tell ourselves that we’re stronger than anything, and we have to believe it. So reaching out for help becomes too hard.

When you reach adulthood, and then you are faced with having to support yourself out in the world, its especially hard to get good counseling without access to employer paid health insurance. Most of us struggle with staying gainfully employed, which is how we can get good health care.

Our foundation aims to connect counselors, therapists, psychologists, and psychiatrists with our patients through use of donations to award grants for the costs of seeing qualified mental health professionals. We aim to connect these generous people with our CF’ers, their spouses, and families to be able to help the challenges we face in keeping a stable head on our shoulders.
